What verification is for
Synapse Chat is a network for verified Australian clinical professionals. Verification is the entry condition that makes it trustworthy: because membership is checked, the colleague on the other end of a message is a real, registered practitioner rather than an unverified account.
What is checked
For AHPRA-registered practitioners, the Synapse team verifies your AHPRA registration and confirms it is current. Verification is reviewed by a person. It is not a self-declared badge you can simply switch on.
Once you are verified, your profile shows an "AHPRA verified" status with your registration number partly masked (for example, MED••••••4567), so your verified standing is visible without exposing the full number.
Sponsored verification for eligible colleagues
Not everyone who needs to coordinate with verified practitioners holds an AHPRA registration. Eligible non-AHPRA staff who work alongside verified members can join through sponsored verification, where a verified practitioner vouches for them. This keeps the network trustworthy while still allowing the wider team to take part. See Who can join for the detail on eligibility.
What verification does and does not mean
It does mean:
- Your professional registration has been checked and confirmed.
- Other members can trust that your account belongs to a real, registered practitioner.
It does not mean:
- That Synapse Chat is a clinical record system. It is a tool for clinician-to-clinician coordination, not a place to store identifiable patient information.
- That you should drop the most important habit on the platform: keeping your messages de-identified. Verification protects who is on the network; de-identification protects what is written down. See De-identified by default.
Why it matters for you
Verification is the reason colleague contact on Synapse Chat is more dependable than on a general messaging app, where anyone can claim to be anyone.
